DJ equipment is introduced to the student. The student is shown how to set up a system from scratch.
Electronic Music Types, 4-part Structure, Terminology
Students are informed about electronic music styles and DJ terminology, and are given beat synchronization practices that will improve their rhythm keeping and beat counting skills. Vinyl Cueing and Record Placing techniques are demonstrated.
Record Playing Techniques
Back-cueing and scratching (scratch types and applications on records)
Drop mixing (direct transitions)
Slip-cueing (mixing with a moving record)
Crossfader and channel control techniques
DJ Software (AlphaTheta Pioneer Rekodbox 7)
The use of the Rekordbox DVS (Digital Vinyl System) is demonstrated.
Creating Playlists for Radio and Club Performances
Students learn to create fiction in their sets. They learn to choose music according to the location and atmosphere.
Guidance
The student's career goals are determined, guidance is provided regarding performance and job opportunities, and references are provided.
